Multi-Carrier Project

On behalf of ASICS IT & myBrand, I was responsible for the multi-carrier project. The project was divided into two phases:

Phase 1

Goal: The goal of this project-phase was to create an integration with sevensenders. Sevensenders is a company that could be classified as an "EDI-broker". 7S has a large network of European carriers that it can use to serve ASICS' European customers.  Before this project, ASICS had interfaces with multiple global carriers (including UPS, DACHSER & DHL). This should offer the following advantages:

  • Cost Efficiency: Due to their extended network of (local) carriers, SevenSenders was able to offer a contract with often lower costs than than the existing contracts with global carriers such as UPS.
  • Simplification of architecture: Having one interface with SevenSenders, instead of multiple interfaces with multiple different carriers simplifies the architecture of the SAP EWM system and allows for lower maintenance costs.
  • Service: The local carriers associated with SevenSenders often are able to provide better delivery services for their local customers compared to the larger global carriers.
  • Delivery time: The SevenSenders network is able to deliver goods more quickly from ASICS' warehouses to the customers and end consumers throughout Europe.

To facilitate label printing at SevenSenders, I connected to their API service. The labels were triggered using standard printing conditions and automatically triggered this interface. This interface automatically created the order in the 7S portal and generated the label. The label URL was send back to EWM, which forwards it to NiceLabel where some final adjustments could be made. Finally NiceLabel sends it to the dedicated printer. I was responsible for the design, programming and configuration of this solution. Finally I was responsible for testing and post go-live support.

Phase 2

Goal: The goal of phase 2 was to include the European countries that include customs procedures into this process. The focus was Switzerland and Norway. Before this Phase ASICS was not doing direct shipments to these countries for wholesale and did not have an ecommerce prensence.

To include the customs process, the following changes had to be made:

  • Extend the API to include customs declarations and customs release messages.
  • Extend the SAP EWM and SAP FMS (Fashion Management) interface to include information relevant for customs (such as cost price and country of origin data).
  • Modify existing business process to correctly do the customs declarations.

I was responsible for the configuration and development of these topics. Moreover, I provided support during testing and after Go-Live.
